Falassarna

Falassarna actually consists of five consecutive beaches stretching over 3 kilometers.

Pachia Ammos

Baby Beach
: Located at the northern end, this area features shallow, natural rock pools that are perfect for families with young children.
Small Beach (
Petalida)

Ancient Falassarna

At the northern edge of the bay lie the ruins of the Ancient Hellenistic Harbor.

Geological Marvel: Due to a massive earthquake in 365 AD, the entire western coast of Crete rose by up to 9 meters, leaving the ancient harbor perched high on dry land, about 100 meters from the current shoreline.
Highlights: You can visit the ancient city walls, towers, and the mysterious Stone Throne, which may have been dedicated to Poseidon or used as a public podium.

Sunset & Atmosphere

The Best Sunset in Crete: Because it faces due west with an unhindered horizon, Falassarna is legendary for its sunsets. Visitors often stay specifically to watch the sun "dive" directly into the sea.
Wind & Waves: The beach is exposed to northwesterly winds, which can create large, fun waves—making it a favorite spot for windsurfing and surfing.
Beach Parties: Every first or second Saturday of August, the area hosts one of the island's most famous large-scale beach parties.

Logistics

Location: Approximately 59 km (a 1-hour drive) west of Chania town and 15 km from Kissamos.
Access: It is easily reachable by car or via KTEL public buses during the summer season.
